Winter in Alaska |
Alaska is a land of extreme contrasts. The difference between summer and winter is a perfect example of this. Take the tiny town of Bettles, Alaska for example. Summer temperatures often reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while winter low temperature can reach minus 60 degrees fahrenheit. That is a seasonal difference of 150 degrees! |
Got Snow? Our goal is to reveal the very best winter activities in the world, and we are in the perfect location to do just that. We are located in Valdez, Alaska. |
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, Valdez recieves an average of 325 inches of snow each year. |
Incredibly, many areas of the nearby Chugach Mountains recieve 600 inches of snow each season. That's 50 feet of Snow! |
The area really has the right 'tude for extreme winter fun... Longatude. Latitude. Altitude. |
Here's what's even more astounding: the city of Valdez is at sea level, not high up in the mountains. What makes this place so amazing is that with the exception of a mile wide fiord linking it with the Gulf of Alaska, Valdez is completely surrounded by the stunning Chugach Mountains. The Chugach Mountains top out at almost 14,000 feet, with peaks of over 5,000 visable from down town Valdez. |
Spring in the Chugach |
